The Best of Latinomics with Ramiro Murguia

In cooperation with our Latin American media partner Latin People
The Best of the World Network is very happy to introduce a valuable member and associate from Mexico: Latinomics, I.Eng. Ramiro Murguia, MBA
Founder / Director General Latinomics International

Dear Ramiro; Thank you for accepting this interview!

What does Latinomics mean to you?

It has been, without a doubt, a big step in my professional career and it has had an extraordinary impact in my personal life and I am very grateful to each and every person and circumstances that, directly or indirectly, made it possible to be here in Austria, working for my long time dream: Latinomics, together with a extraordinary young team worldwide.

Could you tell us more about your working experience at the United Nations in Vienna? What does it mean for a young Mexican?

Working for the UN led me to boost my career internationally. It helped me to create an “everything-is-possible” vision and most of all, assisted me in creating a solid network of people with an incredible potential to work together.

Give us three main convictions when you talk about your job…

Mission, process and benefit. One has to understand and get to know his client or ultimate user. Once you truly identify your target group, put yourself in their shoes and, if you can truly add value to your clients and your job convinces you, then that is enough. However, you will need to improve constantly. This process is the best learning method and it will probably not work as you expect it, but you will definitely make progress along the way. The benefit is the impact that one can have on society and it will always have to be positive, with no excuses.

Right now my job at Latinomics is to know where the organization needs to head to, finding the right people to team up with me and find new ways to cooperate with other organizations such as UNIDO, Latin American Institute, OFID, many universities, institutes and The Best of the World Network. My job also consists of listening to my team because, the communication that we have is essential due to the nature of our team: young and multicultural – each of them has a very particular way of communicating and it is sometimes challenging to communicate effectively.

One of the most important challenges was the integration of business in a social level in your profession. What lessons did that process teach you?

That is a very good question Maria and, in fact, this is where Latinomics is born. That’s what Roberto, Maribel, Fayrouz, Klaudia, Nicolas, myself and all the team understood and developed and now we are positioned as one of the most promising NGOs around the world. It is all about teamwork, we combine several years of international experience – although we are still a young organization, it has been a hard but successful path together. I believe that everything has to be centered in the social area. I am a true entrepreneur and a believer of “Social Business” because it is really our society that determines if an endeavor is accepted or not, so everything has to be focused on the improvement of society itself. After working in more than five countries, I cannot seem to find any other understanding of a business process that is not in benefit of the human being.

Looking back, why do you think you ended up where you are now?

Because I love adventure. I come from a small, beautiful city about six hours away from Mexico City, and I always wanted to go abroad to meet new people, do new things, listen to different music, see mountains and rivers. I do not like studying but I do love learning. That was my first wish and I made it come true because I flew away from Mexico at a very young age with a contract in my hands. After that and because I was very young, I followed my heart and it brought me to Vienna. It is here where I could truly take advantage of my professional major since there were many downs, deep downs, but also many ups for which I am incredibly grateful for. So I am here in Austria without a person to love but in love with life, with my job and grateful with my family and my friends. About my true love, I think it will eventually come and I will share many beautiful and intense years that are yet to come.

What advice would you give to a young person that is just getting started in the same field as you, from your Latin-American perspective?

I would tell him to fear a life that is not the one he wants or deserves. I would tell him to read a lot, play sports, study a little but learn a lot. To work in many areas in a responsible way since he is very young so that he can understand how economy works, to respect the ones that are not like him, to never hate anyone, and to understand all those that are apparently above or below him, to fall in love but to stay focused. I would tell him to simply live each and every day of his life and to get educated on new technologies and languages because he will otherwise be left behind.

Advantages and disadvantages of being Latin-American in the labor field where you are currently developing yourself?

At this moment I can only see extraordinary advantages for us. One of them is that we are creative people; we know how to have a good time, but we also know how to work hard and, when we go abroad, we combine those two things with discipline and vision. That’s where we start blooming. Up to this moment, there is not one single Latin-American organization like Latinomics in Europe, nor is there any in the Austro-German region, so we still have a lot to do; however, when competition comes, we will be way ahead of them. The only disadvantage that is possibly real and that I see a lot in many other Latin-American brothers is that we are not yet used to studying or learning languages and that is extremely necessary while doing almost any activity nowadays.

What are your main challenges today?

I live in a constant challenge with myself; even I can be my worst and biggest obstacle. I want to improve my German as much as possible. In the business area I am starting up the expansion of Latinomics all the way to Chile and Peru so that at the beginning of the second trimester of 2015 we can touch land a little further, but it is yet a surprise to come.

Tell us a Little bit about your personal life

1. Age, civil status, family.
I am 31 years old, I was born in a very humble neighborhood in Córdoba, Mexico. I am single and without a family yet, I am waiting to meet the right girl.

2. What are other activities that keep you busy?
I love sports, specially participating in triathlons and half-marathons. I like playing piano and guitar, even though I am not that good. I read a lot when I can and I am interested on multimedia production.

3. One phrase or idea that you use regularly.
I think I do not really have one in particular, but there certainly are many poetries that I find helpful, such as: “At peace” by Amado Nervo, “If” by Rudyard Kipling, “Desiderata” by Max Ehrmann, among many others. In spite of that, I often share two phrases during my lectures and conferences: “It always seems to be impossible until it’s done” and “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”

4.What do you admire in others?
Firstly love and respect to himself and his neighbor. I think this is all a philosophy and a lifestyle. Discipline, vision and honesty are what really have an impact on people.

5.What motivates you at work and in life?
The strong desire to improve, to help, to go to our land and see conscious people that are also proud of their roots: a unique and extraordinary indigenous mix.

Thank you very much for the interview. Wishing you lots of success!

Gracias Ramiro y mucho exito!
