Statement on the occasion of the World Day of Peace

Statement by His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain on the occasion of World Day of Peace – 21 September 2017

His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, stated that the success of international efforts meant to establish stability and world peace require a collective will and action that set forth decisive solutions to the causes of wars and conflicts affecting many parts of the world.

He stressed that the international community’s efforts should be focused on building a world in which its nations and peoples live in security and peace that would enhance their ability to accomplish comprehensive development and a more prosperous life for humankind.

He said that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, is keen to support all joint efforts aimed at achieving world peace, whether by implementing its international commitments in this field or through welcoming all initiatives aimed at establishing peace and stability at the international level.

In a message to the world on the occasion of the International Peace Day, which is observed on Thursday, 21 September 2017 and devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples, under the theme “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All”, His Royal Highness the Prime Minister affirmed that the essence of human coexistence is pluralism and diversity. And that all religions emphasize the value of peace and encourage the spread of love in a framework that preserves the dignity of all.

“The tragedies witnessed by some parts of the world led to a state of instability, coupled with tragic phenomena that undermine human civilization, especially the issue of refugees and migrants. Unless these phenomena are dealt with thoroughly, the future of humanity will be in danger on all levels” HRH said and warned against laxity in confronting real causes of international conflicts. This would lead to their expansion to even those nations made to believe that they are immune to such conflicts”.

He praised the focus of this year’s International Day of Peace on the issue of migrants and refugees, which he said has become “a phenomenon that has been exacerbated by the conflicts and tensions in some regions of the world that have forced a large section of people to abandon their areas in search of a safe haven”.

His Royal Highness called for more support for international organizations and civil society institutions working in refugee issues to enable them to carry out their noble humanitarian mission in terms of preserving the life and dignity of this group of people suffering from the harshness of displacement and alienation.

He also said that the Kingdom of Bahrain is taking all necessary measures to enhance world peace and to cooperate with brotherly and friendly nations in order to provide a comprehensive peace out of belief in peace as an imperative and an important factor in the march of nations and peoples on the road to sustainable development.

The Kingdom of Bahrain is a peace loving country, setting to the world a model of love and brotherhood among all its people based on a long history of co-existence, which has contributed to the consolidation of successive generations who have lived on this land and built a civilization with all elements of development and progress.

He stressed that the scourge of terrorism is a real challenge to the realization of world peace and that eliminating it requires dealing with it not only on the security level, but through intellectual reviews and refutation of false ideas instilled by some extremist groups in the minds of young people.

The region has been living for years in a cycle of violence and wars that have left so many lives and properties harmed, and it is time for the world to shoulder its humanitarian responsibility to spare future generations from more tragedies and establish the values of peace and cooperation for a better life for peoples, he said.

He urged for greater attention to economic development and improvement of living and social conditions of the most needy people so that peace and justice can prevail, out of belief in the common human destiny and importance of peace as a basis for development and prosperity.

In concluding his message, His Royal Highness the Prime Minister commended the efforts exerted by the United Nations and its specialized agencies and all other organizations working for peace to promote international cooperation. He also welcomed their endeavours aimed at implanting peace and stability for humankind.

He called upon the international community to back and build on those efforts to achieve a lasting peace that will achieve people’s aspirations for security and stability.

“Bahraini society is based on cooperation and compassion among its citizens and residents, as well as their freedom, equality, security, tranquillity, social solidarity and equal opportunities. These are the pillars of society guaranteed the the State.”
